Steve Smith returned to batting at the nets last week after having taken a cortisone injection to help him overcome his wrist injury. The cricketer picked up the injury during Australia’s Ashes 2023 tour of England, which subsequently sidelined him from team’s ODI and T20I trip to South Africa.

As of now, Smith is slated to tour India for a three-match ODI series later this month. The matches itself form Australia’s final set of fixtures on their roadmap to the 2023 World Cup, scheduled between October and November.

Steve Smith gives recovery update ahead of India ODIs

Steve Smith picked up a wrist tendon injury during Australia’s second Ashes 2023 Test at Lord’s back in June this year. The cricketer was hampered throughout the remainder of their series in England, before being completely sidelined from Australia’s limited-overs tour of South Africa.

At a recent promotional event in Sydney, Smith revealed that he received a cortisone injection to help him in recovery and is currently feeling normal while batting at the nets. While speaking with the Nine, the Australian batting mainstay said:

“I was in a brace for a couple of weeks, just trying to limit the movement, which once I got that off it hadn't really made a big difference to be honest. Then I got a cortisone in it last Thursday, and that has made a big difference. So I've had a couple of sessions back batting now and it feels pretty normal.”

The first of Australia’s three ODI matches against hosts India will be played out at Mohali’s Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium on September 22. The series will conclude on September 27 in Rajkot, roughly a week prior to the commencement of the 2023 World Cup.
