As the excitement for the World Cup 2023 reaches its peak, the Trophy Tour continues its global expedition, enthralling fans around the world. Indian captain, Rohit Sharma, recently experienced the rare honour of an up-close interaction with the iconic trophy in Barbados, a moment that intensified the anticipation for the upcoming cricketing extravaganza that is set to unfurl in India from October 5 to November 19.

Rohit Sharma's first tryst with World Cup 2023 trophy

The lynchpin of India's batting line-up and the highest run-scorer in the 2019 edition, Rohit is all set to lead the Indian team in the upcoming World Cup. His magnificent batting in the past editions had steered India to the semi-finals but this time around, he is the captain, thus burdening his shoulders with the coveted responsibility of guiding India to reclaim the World Cup glory.

With every stopover, the Trophy Tour has highlighted the global appeal of the World Cup, paving the way to that one momentous day when the ultimate cricketing honour awaits the victorious nation.

In an exclusive chat with the ICC, Rohit Sharma shared his awe-struck encounter with the trophy, viewing it from such close quarters for the first time ever. Sharma, who had missed out on the euphoria of India's 2011 victory, articulated a profound longing associated with it.

“I’ve never seen it so close. Even when we won in 2011, I was not part of the squad. But yeah, it looks beautiful, so many memories behind the trophy as well, the past, the history. Yeah, so, it looks beautiful and hopefully we can lift it, fingers crossed,” said Rohit while speaking to the apex-cricketing board.

As Rohit gears up to captain the India team in World Cup 2023, expectations soar high. The Indian veteran has the opportunity to fulfill the dream that he missed out on in 2011.
