Harmanpreet Kaur gets Sune Luus out on 109 in one-off Test at Chennai (X.com)
In a thrilling red ball encounter between India Women and South Africa Women, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur's aggressive leadership and stellar performance with the ball broke Sune Luus' formidable 109-run resistance, shifting the momentum decisively in India's favour.
After setting up a record first-inning total of 603 runs against South Africa, Indian women came out even stronger and lethal with the ball.
Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma didn't allow the opposition even a minute to breathe and wrap up their first innings at 266 runs and imposed follow-on.
However, South African women stacked up a 200-run partnership for the second wicket as captain Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus showed positive intent to somehow save the Test for their side.
Sune Luus scored a century and kept South Africa alive in what was turning out to be a one-sided contest. However, when nothing worked, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur took matters into her own hands and came out to bowl in the final session of Day 3.
Kaur's tossed-up delivery in the 74th over stayed low and skidded through as Luus' pull attempt was foiled. She was undone by the lack of bounce, and Kaur had the breakthrough India desperately needed.
As soon as the ball disturbed the wickets, Harmanpreet Kaur roared aggressively in delight as her team had toiled for nearly 70 overs to get Luus' wicket against the run of play.
With that, South Africa has been reduced to 232/2, with captain Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp out in the middle to save the Test.
Meanwhile, India Women still has a little over 100 runs lead, and the bowling unit must wrap things up quickly to get a result in this one-off Test game.
