Pakistan cricket team arrived in Australia for its first big challenge after the ODI World Cup fallout. Amid structural overhaul, the men in green have entered a rebuilding phase to retain lost competitiveness and stature in world cricket.

Meanwhile, Babar Azam quit captaincy across three formats of the game days after Pakistan suffered a group-stage exit in the ODI World Cup. Accordingly, Shan Masood was named test captain, and Shaheen Shah Afridi was handed the T20 format captaincy.

Now that the leadership burden is off his shoulders, Babar Azam intends to ace his role as a dependable batter. Ahead of the crucial test series against the mighty Australia, the ex-skipper hit the nets and spent significant time getting accustomed to a variety of deliveries.

Pakistan's coaching staff bowled to Babar Azam turn by turn and tried to offer as many variations as possible to prepare Azam for the best and the worst. Meanwhile, the right-handed batter took every delivery head-on, thus putting his talent and expertise to use.

Babar Azam Awaits Crucial Test Against The Mighty Aussies

Having said that, Babar Azam's responsibility will only increase from hereon. Though he is no longer the leader of the pack, performing consistently with the bat in the middle order is a different ball game.

While Babar's experience speaks for himself, the Australian conditions will surely test his talent and adaptability skills. He would be required to drop his traditional attacking approach and adopt the inning-building mindset because setting up partnerships has been the foundation of success in Australia.

Needless to say, the Aussies will come out with all guns blazing. The likes of Starc, Hazelwood, and captain Pat Cummins will make Pakistan's batters' lives a living hell with the new ball.

But again, the men in green have been facing such situations and should be able to tackle it comfortably.

The first test will be played on 14th December 2023 in Perth, shortly after the customary warm-up game concludes.
