Hardik Pandya, the dependable man of crisis for the Indian cricket team, encountered a challenging phase as his fitness went for a toss due to excess workload.

The all-rounder has been struggling to manage the dual role, especially after he endured a back injury a couple of years ago. To make matters worse, Pandya injured his ankle during the ODI World Cup 2023, thus marking the end of a stellar campaign.

Since then, Hardik has been missing in action, and with the T20 World Cup just around the corner, concerns over his availability have left the fans anxious.

Meanwhile, a BCCI source spoke to CricketNext and shared exclusive details on the board's future plan of action with respect to Hardik Pandya's recovery. It's important to note that the Mumbai Indians all-rounder has been at the NCA ever since his World Cup exit, fighting his way through rehabilitation.

Hardik Pandya to undergo special recovery program

Now, as per the source, NCA has devised a foolproof personalized high-performance training program for the all-rounder, keeping his long-term future in mind.

As per the 18-week-long program, Hardik Pandya will participate in activities such as cardio, strength training, functional training, rest, and recovery. Everything has been carefully planned to optimise Pandya's strength and get him up on his feet by the T20 World Cup.

"We speak of workload management. This is precisely what it is all about. Is there a doubt on his ability as a T20 cricketer? No. What we rather need is setting long-term goals and ensuring endurance levels remain up to the mark," a source told CricketNext.

Not to forget, the source also disclosed that the all-rounder was in the mix for the South Africa tour white ball series. But since he didn't recover in time, the BCCI decided to exercise caution.

Having said that, Hardik Pandya remains a pivotal personnel of Indian cricket with no immediate replacement in hand. Thus, preserving his fitness remains the board's top priority.

Also, the training program in question was previously tested on Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul during their injury stints in NCA. Owing to its positive results, NCA chose to opt for the same for Pandya.
