Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, in a recent interview, shared insights into the dynamics of the Pakistan team under the new leadership of Test captain Shan Masood.

The team is currently in Canberra, preparing for an upcoming four-day match against the Australian Prime Minister XI, which precedes a three-match Test series against Australia.

Sarfaraz Ahmed opens up on Babar Azam's continued contribution in the team

Sarfaraz highlighted the positive environment within the team, noting that Masood has been effective in creating strong relationships among the players. He also commended the involvement of the team’s star batter, Babar Azam, who recently relinquished his captaincy in all formats. Despite stepping down, Azam remains actively engaged in the team's planning and strategy, a move Sarfaraz regards as beneficial for the team's cohesion and growth.

"Shan Masood is taking along all the players very well and he has a good bonding with Mohammad Hafeez. Babar's role has also been very good as I observed in the camp. He is very involved in the team and he helps the skipper in making plans for the team,” said Sarfaraz Ahmed.

The stumper also touched upon his own aspirations and the collective goals of the team. While acknowledging individual ambitions, he highlighted the team's primary objective of playing quality cricket and aiming for a series win in Australia. He expressed his and fellow player Rizwan's readiness to adapt to any role assigned to them.

"Our target is to win the series while the individual goal is to give the best in batting and keeping whatever the opportunity is given. When you play cricket, you are prepared for whatever role is given to you. Rizwan and I will try to fulfil whatever role is given to us,” added the 36-year-old.

Regarding the upcoming series against Australia, Sarfaraz acknowledged the challenge of facing a formidable opponent on their home ground. He expressed confidence in the team's abilities and determination to perform well against the Australians, describing them as a "top quality side." The team's focus, according to Sarfaraz, is to play competitive cricket and strive for victory in the series.
