In a heated session of the Pakistani Parliament, federal ministers have joined the growing chorus of criticism against Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan cricket team, following their shambolic performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.

This criticism comes after Pakistan's unexpected losses to the USA and India, which significantly hindered their chances of advancing to the Super 8s.

During a recent parliamentary session, a viral video captured a federal minister mockingly suggesting that Babar Azam should throw a party and claim that a conspiracy had been plotted against him.

This sarcastic remark came in response to Pakistan's back-to-back defeats, which have left fans and former cricketers outraged.

This issue has also been politicized, with a member of the PML(N) using the opportunity to criticize political opponent Imran Khan, a former cricket captain.

The parliamentarian humorously suggested that Babar should conduct a condolence meeting and blame other players for the team's failure, mirroring advice from senior cricketers.

Babar Azam, who was reappointed as the white-ball captain just before the T20 World Cup 2024, faced severe backlash for the team's poor performance.

After an unsuccessful stint by Shaheen Afridi as captain following Pakistan's poor showing in the ODI World Cup 2023, Babar resumed his role but couldn't turn the team's fortunes around.

Adding to the controversy, Babar has been enjoying a holiday in London with his family while the rest of the team returned to Pakistan. He is expected back on Saturday and has been asked to provide a report on the team's early exit from the tournament.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will review this report, which will play a crucial role in deciding Babar's future as captain.

The PCB now faces the challenging task of addressing these concerns and making decisions that could shape the future of Pakistan cricket.
