The Pakistan cricket team crashed to a first-round exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup this month, losing out to USA and arch-rivals India in their opening two games of the tournament.

While the ‘Men in Green’ finished off their campaign with wins over Canada and Ireland, they ended up falling just a fraction behind number-two placed USA on the Group A points table.

As it turns out, the outcome might prompt the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to make some drastic changes to its selection committee.

According to a recent report, the PCB is looking forward to form a review to assess possibilities about what went wrong with the Babar Azam-led team.

As reported by PTI, the PCB will likely be making changes to their seven-member selection committee. Moreover, chief selector and former Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz might also make his exit from the group.

The PCB is reportedly “frustrated” with the team’s recent 2024 T20 World Cup show in the USA, and they are aiming to review their overall performance.

“The board is likely to return to the old system of having a chief selector with two or three selectors and the captain and head coach not sitting in selection meetings with the selectors,” a source told PTI.

“Most likely players, who have central contracts, will be demoted or even dropped because of poor performances and other perks awarded to the players will be looked into,” he said.

Former South African batter Gary Kirsten, who was recently appointed as Pakistan cricket coach, also slammed the Babar Azam-led side over their ‘poor shot selection’ with batting throughout the tournament. Kirsten also questioned the fitness levels of the players.

The Pakistan team commenced their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign with a shock defeat to USA in a thrilling Super Over battle. In their subsequent outing, the ‘Men in Green’ bottled an easy run-chase at New York against perennial arch-rivals India.

The Pakistan team will soon be shifting its focus for a two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home in August.
