The Test series may have ended 2-2 but some moments stay long after the final ball is bowled. And one such moment came from KL Rahul, who took to Instagram to hail two battered but brave soldiers of the game: Rishabh Pant and Chris Woakes with a powerful post that’s now winning hearts all over cricket fandom.
KL Rahul Hails Pant And Woakes For Their Grit And Heart
On Tuesday, a day after India’s dramatic six-run win at The Oval to level the series, Rahul shared a two-photo layout on his Instagram story.
On the top half: Pant walking down the steps in full gear, carrying an injury but still suiting up for his team. On the bottom: Chris Woakes, visibly hurting, walking off after his short but gutsy stay at the crease.
The caption said it all!
"Warriors. Defining courage and love for this sport.".
Woakes Walks Out To Bat Despite Injured Shoulder
It was Day 5. England had only one wicket left. And just when everyone thought Woakes wouldn’t bat, out came the all-rounder. Shoulder-strapped and in pain. With his front arm completely compromised, he tried to hang on for England while Gus Atkinson launched a six at the other end to buy time.
But it wasn’t meant to be. Siraj did what he does best: rattled Atkinson’s stumps. Woakes’s bat dropped, his shoulders sagged but his courage was etched into the hearts of everyone watching.
Pant’s Grit Echoes Through The Series
The comparison to Rishabh Pant was instant. Just days before, in the fourth Test, Pant had walked in visibly in discomfort after injuring his toe but refused to throw in the towel. He stuck around, soaked in the pain and stitched vital runs in a Test India almost pulled out of the fire.
Respect, Not Rivalry
In a world where banter often takes the limelight, KL Rahul’s Instagram story showed that respect in cricket still lives and breathes. That behind every rivalry is a shared love for the grind, for the team, for the badge on the chest.
