Wasim Jaffer trolled Michael Vaughan [Source: @WasimJaffer14, @GlobalHindu2020/x.com]
Some battles are fought on the pitch, others on X. And when it comes to online banter between former India opener Wasim Jaffer and ex-England skipper Michael Vaughan, it’s always game on.
This time, though, Jaffer waited patiently, let the series play out and then dropped a sledge so smooth, so savage, it had fans losing their minds.
Vaughan Threw The Bait And Jaffer Waited With A Smile
It all started on August 3, right in the middle of the tension-filled fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Vaughan, never one to miss a cheeky shot, tweeted:
"Afternoon, Wasim Jaffer. I hope you are okay."
Now, if you have followed their banter over the years, you would know this wasn’t just a friendly check-in, it was a dig. A good old poke-the-bear move from Vaughan while England were still in the hunt at The Oval. But Jaffer, the true king of patience, didn’t bite.
When India Pulled Off A Heist, Jaffer Pulled Out The Hammer
Fast forward 24 hours. India, against all odds, had just pulled off a six-run win in one of the most dramatic final days in recent Test memory. Mohammed Siraj breathed fire, England collapsed chasing a record total at The Oval and the series was tied 2-2.
That is when Jaffer struck and he did it in style.
He shared a picture of himself chilling on a charpai (called baz or baaj in Marathi) somewhere in Dubai, with the caption:
“Lying on a Baz having a ball, how about you @MichaelVaughan 😉 #ENGvIND”
Talk about wordplay. Jaffer not only used Baz (a clear dig at England's BazBall approach) but flipped the narrative entirely. He wasn’t stressed, wasn’t watching nervously. He was just having a ball. That is some high-level trolling.
The tweet went viral within minutes. Indian fans, who have watched Vaughan’s digs for years, finally had the perfect clapback delivered by none other than their meme king.
The Perfect End To A See-Saw Series
India’s win at The Oval was historic. Siraj bagged a fifer. England choked under pressure. And the series ended 2-2, perfectly balanced, just like their online war.
And just like that, Jaffer delivered the final blow. Not with a bat, but with a tweet.
Michael Vaughan? He is yet to reply. But knowing Jaffer, he must have already got a meme ready… just in case.
