Fans were unimpressed as Virat Kohli once again nicked an outside the off-stump line delivery to throw his wicket away on Day 1 of the fifth Test. Kohli had survived a similar dismissal on the first ball of his innings but was undone by Scott Boland after the lunch break.

Virat Kohli, currently on the brink of getting dropped from the Test team, continued the woeful trend of unwarranted dismissals. On Day 1 of the fifth Test against Australia, Kohli came in to bat at no.4 after India were down 17/2. He weathered the stormy spells of Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland in the first session. However, the veteran ended up losing patience after the lunch break.

Virat Kohli on receiving end after shocking dismissal

For the nth time in this series, Virat Kohli edged an outside the off-stump delivery that went straight to Beau Webster in the slips, resulting in an ugly dismissal. Notably, Kohli had survived a similar incident on the first ball he faced in the innings. He teased the off-stump ball before Steve Smith’s low catch was deemed illegal by the third umpire.

However, as Kohli went down on 17 to mark another failure, fans on social media were fuming. They called him out for repeating the same mistakes throughout the series. Many fans also demanded the batter’s immediate retirement from Test cricket as he hasn’t been able to match his standards in recent times.

In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, except for a hundred in the Perth Test, Kohli hasn’t been able to score runs when his team needed him the most. This has led to speculations about his future, and this dismissal will only work against him.

Meanwhile, as Kohli faced fans’ wrath, India stood in a precarious position. After Virat’s dismissal, the visitors were reduced to 72/4. Bumrah had opted to bat first after winning the toss, but the decision hasn’t seemed to be working so far.
