The fifth Test between India and Australia is off to a dramatic start. India dropped Rohit Sharma and Bumrah decided to bat first on a green-looking pitch in overcast conditions. The Indian team though is not off to a great start and have lost both their openers while Virat Kohli survived a golden duck on the fifth ball of the 8th over.

It was a typical Boland delivery, short of good-length, around off. Kohli pushed at it with hard hand and got an outside edge that went to the right of Steve Smith at second slip. He dived and somehow managed to deflect the ball towards gully where Marnus Labuschagne took a good catch.

Smith was confident that he scooped the ball up before it touched the ground, but the TV umpire after multiple replays decided against it and confirmed that the ball hit the ground and the big screen flashed NOT OUT.

The decision brought a big cheer in SCG while Virat Kohli came up with a wry smile and Steve Smith walked back to his position shaking his head in frustration and disbelief.

There have been many controversial decisions in this series and some of them have gone against India, so getting one back in their favour could help build team's confidence. Also, it is a big reprieve for the Indian side as losing Kohli would have been a big blow with visitors in need of his experience in the middle after two early wickets.

Australia, on the other hand, are looking red-hot, with the new ball doing all the talking and they would be looking to pin down India as soon as possible and put themselves in diver's seat in this Pink Test.
