India came into the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) vs Australia under-cooked after their humiliation against the New Zealand side at home. The Rohit Sharma led side suffered an embarrassing 3-0 series whitewash as their chances of reaching the WTC finals took a severe dent.

However, after a crushing victory at Perth, Team India were right back on track before the disaster struck. The side lost at Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney as the Australian team captured the BGT, 3-1 and knocked out India out of WTC finale race. It was a one-man army show for India as Jasprit Bumrah stood tall and almost all the big names failed to deliver.

The likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had a horrendous Australian tour as talks intensified of their Test retirement. Recently, the BCCI had an emergency meeting with coach, Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit, and Team India's performance was reviewed.

As per Express Sports, a suggestion has been given to introduce a performance based variable pay structure. It is to ensure more accountability, and if warranted, face a pay-cut for poor performance.

Kohli, Rohit under pressure after poor performance

Barring a century in Perth, Virat Kohli had a disappointing Test tour of Australia as the star batter failed to reach the 50-run mark in other innings. He was consistently troubled on deliveries pitched outside the off as experts questioned his desire to learn from mistakes.

Rohit, on the other hand missed the first Test, but from the second Test onwards, he had a nightmarish run and Pat Cummins made him his bunny.

After poor performances in Adelaide, Gabba and MCG Test, Rohit opted for a rest from the 5th Test match, but the result was no different as India suffered a crushing defeat. Due to the poor performances of the seniors, the BCCI is likely to introduce this new system, in order to make sure that every player stays on their toes.
