It's time for match number 34 of the Big Bash League 14, where Hobart Hurricanes will lock horns against Melbourne Renegades at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart, on 14th January, Tuesday with expectations high from both teams when they take the field from 2 PM IST. While Hobart is high on confidence, their opponents, Renegades, are thinking about what went wrong in the previous encounter.

Hobart Hurricanes are having a fantastic season with as many as five wins after their name in the points tally and just one loss, which they won't mind much because of their position on the table. Currently stationed third, the Tasmanian side have 11 points, which they have accumulated from seven matches, while one of them was abandoned due to rain.

Their previous game against Sydney Thunder ended in their favour, with Tim David at the forefront of a masterful chase as they finished the game with ease inside 17 overs, scoring 165 for victory. Conversely, Bowlers were equally brilliant, with Riley Meredith and Billy Stanlake being consistent with their line and length.

Led by Will Sutherland, Melbourne Renegades were outclassed by Melbourne Stars and almost single-handedly by Glenn Maxwell, who rocked them with a blistering 90. After Stars put 165 on the board, the Red Army were nowhere near as they bowled out for just 123, losing the game by 42 runs after surrendering to Mark Steketee's pace, who bagged a fifer.

Tom Rogers, Fergus O'Neill, Adam Zampa, and Kane Richardson all picked two wickets apiece, while there was no significant contribution on the batting front. On the points chart, things seem gloomy for the Renegades, who have just three wins from eight games and five embarrassing losses, putting them in the seventh spot with just six points.

Bellerive Oval Pitch Report For Match 34 Of BBL 2024-25

The pitch at Hobart's Bellerive Oval has been conducive for batters who have scored runs freely here. Run-scoring has never been an issue here, with an average of 165 in the first innings, and can even exceed that based on if the pitch remains intact. Batters can find the pitch here quite supportive, with adequate pace and bounce on offer.

Meanwhile, the pacers might enjoy a bit of movement on offer early in the innings, after which cutters and slower ones need to be employed to get better results. Spinners, however, would find it challenging here as short boundaries won't help their cause on a flat deck where the ball hardly turns. Also, teams winning the toss would likely chase as teams batting first have lost three out of four games this season.

Top 3 Captain and Vice-Captain Choices For HUR vs REN

1) Tim David

Tim David's brute hitting force has finally joined the party as he played two magnificent knocks in back-to-back games where knocking 62* and 68*, respectively, for Hurricanes. He has scored 167 runs in five innings with an average of 55.66 and a strike rate of 185.55 while helping his side stay in competition with 14 sixes. David's unique ability to start the innings from fifth gear makes him an outstanding contender for the C/VC spot.

2) Tom Rogers

Melbourne Renegades pacer Tom Rogers has bowled with grit and smartness in this competition, using his wealthy experience to great effect this season. Having played eight matches so far, the right-armer has bagged 15 crucial wickets at an average of 17.40 while bowling with an economy rate of 8.79. Mitchell Owen is on absolute fire in this BBL 14, with 202 runs coming from just six games while having his best of 101*. Maintaining an average of 40.40 and a strike rate of 177.19, Owen has been the key performer for Hobart.
