In other news, the CSK franchise has been accused of “wrongfully” acquiring young South African batter Dewald Brevis after a video of Gurjapneet Singh bowling in a practice game went viral on social media.

Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Thursday, April 24.

Hazlewood, Padikkal, Kohli-Backed RCB End Home Drought

The RCB franchise recorded its first home win of the IPL 2025 season in Bengaluru, doing so against Rajasthan Royals in match 42 of the competition. Batting first, half-centuries from Virat Kohli (70 off 42) and Devdutt Padikkal (50 off 27) helped the RCB mount a staggering 205-5 from 20 overs after being put into bat first. For the Rajasthan Royals, Sandeep Sharma picked up two wickets at an expense of 45 runs.

Chasing 206, Rajasthan Royals managed just 194-9 to fall short by 11 runs despite racing to 99-2 in just the first eight overs of the innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal (49 off 19) and Dhruv Jurel (47 off 34) bludgeoned swift 40s, but lack of intent from the others, and a sensational four-wicket haul from Josh Hazlewood (4-33) helped RCB seal the game towards the end. Krunal Pandya also picked up the important wickets of Riyan Parag and Nitish Rana during the middle overs.

Virat Kohli Pile Up Records With Explosive 70 Vs RR

Virat Kohli punched out 70 runs from just 42 balls against Rajasthan Royals in match 42 of the IPL 2025 season, belting eight boundaries and two sixes in the process. Through the course of his knock, Kohli also completed 3,500 T20 runs at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which happens to be his IPL home ground since the tournament’s inaugural edition back in 2008. He also became the first cricketer in T20 history to score over 3,500 runs at a single venue.

Moreover, Virat Kohli recorded his 111th score of fifty or more in T20 cricket, going past Chris Gayle’s tally of 110 to aggregate the second highest number of fifty-plus scores in the format (behind David Warner).

Gautam Gambhir Receives Death Threat From ISIS Kashmir

Indian head coach and former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has received a death threat from a Kashmir-based terrorist organization. Gambhir, who previously served as a member of the Parliament from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), approach Delhi Police to demand swift action from the authorities. The ex-Indian opener received two emails, both containing the same message, "IKillU".

Earlier this week, Gautam Gambhir also condemned the terrorist attack that took place at Kashmir's Pahalgam, which took the lives of over 25 tourists, and one Kashmiri local.

Rahul Dravid Gives Update Regarding Samson’s Return

Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid has provided a crucial update regarding the recovery of injured captain Sanju Samson. During a press conference prior to Rajasthan Royals’ away IPL 2025 fixture against the RCB in Bengaluru, Dravid stated that he cannot give a specific timeline for Samson’s return to the team, as he is still undergoing recovery with the physios.

Sanju Samson has so far missed the previous two Rajasthan Royals matches due to his injury, including the latest one against RCB on April 24.

CSK Accused Of Unfair Brevis Signing As “Injured” Gurjapneet Bowls

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise has been accused of unfairly signing in explosive South African batter Dewald Brevis for the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Brevis was roped in by the CSK as an injury replacement for uncapped Indian fast bowler Gurjapneet Singh. However, Singh was recently spotted bowling and fielding in a practice game.

It is worth noting that the CSK franchise is currently ranked at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table for securing just two wins and sustaining six defeats from eight matches.
