India began their long Test season with a 280-run victory over Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, securing a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Ravichandran Ashwin emerged as the star of the match, showcasing brilliance with both bat and ball. 

India's Massive Dominance To Seal The First Test In Chennai 

Ashwin's crucial century helped India to recover from a precarious 144-6 in the first innings, as he notched up his sixth career Test hundred. Ashwin’s knock of 113, combined with Ravindra Jadeja’s solid support, resulted in a mammoth 199-run partnership for the 7th wicket, steering India to a dominant position.

With the ball, Ashwin remained a key player, particularly in the fourth innings, where he ripped through the Bangladeshi batting order and took a six-wicket haul to seal the game for India. 

Apart from the Ashwin-Jadeja duo, Indian star players Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant inflicted further damage on Bangladesh with their scintillating centuries. Gill played with finesse at the top order, while Pant added fireworks to the middle order, piling on the runs and compounding Bangladesh's misery. 

India's dominance was evident in every department, as they outclassed the visitors to solidify their position at the top of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table.
