In a disappointing news for the 28-year-old, Karnataka pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak has been ruled out of the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2025 semifinals. For the unversed, Vyshak was all set to feature for the South Zone in the ongoing Duleep Trophy, happening at the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) Centre of Excellence (CoE) ground in Bengaluru.
Vijaykumar Vyshak To Miss Semi-Finals After Injury Concerns
After featuring for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 runners-up, Punjab Kings (PKBS), in the recently concluded season, right-arm medium pacer Vijaykumar Vyshak, from Karnataka, who picked up four wickets in five games in the IPL, was selected to feature for the South Zone team in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2025.
However, not to be for the pacer, as the BCCI has not cleared the 28-year-old after undergoing an assessment at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, according to senior journalist Gaurav Gupta.
The South Zone side were already in the semi-finals, and they are slated to face the North Zone team from the 4th of September at the CoE ground in Bengaluru. However, Vyshak will not be a part of that game, as he has been dealing with an unspecified injury.
Interestingly, Vijaykumar had also had a quad injury, which he endured before the IPL 2025 season, before joining Punjab Kings; however, he recovered in time to feature in the cash-rich extravaganza.
Kerala's Mohammed Azharuddeen will now lead the South Zone team, as he has replaced Tilak Varma in that role, who himself has been ruled out of the tournament due to his Asia Cup call-up. Alongside, R. Sai Kishore has also been ruled out of the tournament due to a hand injury.
As for Vijaykumar, he has played a total of 26 first-class matches so far, taking 103 wickets at an average of 23.88, with an economy rate of 3.21, while having three five-wicket hauls.
V Koushik Announced As Replacement In South Zone
In another update, his replacement has also been announced as Vasuki Koushik, a fellow Karnataka teammate has been included in the South Zone side for this semi-final clash.
Additionally, for the uninitiated, Kaushik has relocated from Karnataka to Goa for the upcoming domestic season and will feature for the Goan side in all their matches from the beginning of this season.
Koushik is a right-arm medium pacer, as the 32-year-old has featured in 23 first-class games so far, picking 93 wickets for Karnataka at an average of 17.38, while bowling at an economy of just 2.13 with four five-wicket hauls to his name.
