In a significant development, star Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan has been ruled out of the upcoming Duleep Trophy because of injury. Notably, Sarfaraz has suffered a quadricep injury and will be out of action for 2-3 weeks.
According to a report from The Times of India, Sarfaraz picked up a niggle during his recent outing in the Buchi Babu tournament and has checked in at BCCI's Centre of Excellence. Notably, Khan had a great Buchi Babu tournament, where he slammed a couple of centuries.
Sarfaraz Khan Race To Be Fit For West Indies Tour
Sarfaraz was selected for the West Zone and was set to feature in the first match of the Duleep Trophy on September 4 against Central Zone.
"Sarfaraz is suffering from a quadriceps injury, which he picked up while scoring a. century against Haryana in the Buchi Babu event five days ago. He's set to be out for almost three weeks, and is currently rehabilitating at the CoE," a source confirmed to TOI.
However, Sarfaraz has now informed his family that he is struggling while sprinting and won't be available to play for 2-3 weeks. Further, the 27-year-old is sweating hard on his fitness as India will face West Indies for a two-match Test series starting on October 2, and Khan is certainly in contention.
West Zone Look For Khan's Replacement
Sarfaraz is likely to be replaced by Baroda batter Shivalik Sharma, who was named among the reserves for West Zone in the tournament. Shivalik has scored 1,087 runs in 18 first-class matches at an average of 43.48, with three hundreds and five fifties. He scored 484 runs in seven matches last season at 44.00, with one hundred and three fifties.
Further, talking about Sarfaraz Khan, he missed out on the England tour, but has bounced back from the setback with a dominating show in the domestic circuit. However, the 27-year-old needs to be fit in time to be cleared for selection for the West Indies tour.
