The domestic season returns on Indian soil, as the fans are enjoying the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2025. After a thrilling quarter-final stage, some more thrills are on the way with the upcoming semifinal stage.
Even after East Zone exited from the quarterfinal stage, captain Riyan Parag found his rhythm after a long injury battle. After the match, he reflected on his journey and expressed satisfaction with his comeback performance.
Riyan Parag On His Performance
Hailing from Assam, Riyan Parag became a big name in Indian cricket with his own abilities. After a long battle with the injury, his comeback couldn’t be better as he led the East Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2025 quarterfinal stage. Though the team bowed out after North Zone secured a first-innings lead in the drawn match, Riyan’s all-round performance stood out.
After the Assam all-rounder sustained an injury last year, it has kept troubling him since then. But recovering from the phase, Riyan Parag is back in the hustle again. Talking to the reporters after the match, the all-rounder reflected on his performances.
“The match felt good. I mean, that was the main goal when I came here to play the game. Performances, I didn’t really focus on it in the match. I just wanted to have some fun. I haven’t played competitive cricket in a long time,” Riyan said.
The injury troubled him in the IPL 2025 too. In 14 matches, he scored 393 runs and secured only three wickets. After coming back to the game, he is happy with his performance against the North Zone in the recently concluded clash.
“Since the IPL, I haven’t really played any cricket. IPL also, I was managing a lot of stress and stuff like that. But this was a good outing. Not in a good way with the amount of overs we fielded,” he said.
“But then still, rolled my arm for a few overs, batted for a while. I could have converted it for a bigger score, but I am happy. The arm also feels much better,” he added.
An International Comeback In Riyan’s Lens
After making his ODI debut against Sri Lanka last year, Riyan Parag has been away from the format for a long time now and remained absent from T20Is too. With the Ranji Trophy around the corner and a limited-overs series in Australia on the horizon, the all-rounder is eyeing a strong international comeback after recovering from an injury setback.
“I think it’s back to basics now. I took a break for the shoulder and stuff like that happened. Ranji is coming in, then the Australia tour is coming in (in October). If I get selected there, I do that,” he said.
In the recently concluded match, Riyan Parag contributed 39 runs off 47 balls and bowled 22 overs for 78 runs, picking up a wicket. As the busy schedule is coming up, he is looking forward to a successful campaign.
