Tony de Zorzi’s T20 World Cup 2026 ambitions seems to have taken a massive hit after Durban’s Super Giants (DSG) shared a cryptic post on social media amidst the ongoing SA20 2026 season.

Tony, who is still recovering from his injury, was selected in South Africa’s 15-player squad for the T20 World Cup next month by Cricket South Africa (CSA) a week ago.

Currently in South Africa as part of the DSG franchise, the 28-year-old top-order batter is yet to play a single SA20 game this season, having last featured in competitive cricket a month ago during the ODI series in India.

Tony de Zorzi likely to miss T20 World Cup 2026

South African batter Tony de Zorzi was ruled out of his team’s series-deciding third ODI as well as the entirety of the five-match T20I series, both against India, after suffering a hamstring injury in the second ODI against India on December 3 in Raipur.

Even though the cricketer is yet to attain full recovery, he was included in South Africa squad for the upcoming 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in February and March in India and Sri Lanka.

Yet to turn up for the DSG in the ongoing SA20 2026 season as well, the franchise recently shared a cryptic post regarding Tony de Zorzi. A couple of days before DSG’s SA20 match against Pretoria Capitals in Durban, the franchise took to social media and wrote, “We’re always rooting for you, Tony”.

SA20's cryptic post puts South Africa on notice

The post might well indicate that the 28-year-old is no where close to attaining full recovery, thus further denting his hopes of playing the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

Prior to the showpiece event, the South African team will also host West Indies in a three-match home T20I series between January 27 and February 1.

As of now, it remains to be seen if Tony de Zorzi attains his recovery in time to feature for the DSG in either the fag end of the SA20 2026 season, or make his international return during the West Indies series.
