Team India crashed to a 25-run defeat against New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium to register a rare 0-3 series whitewash at home. To make matters worse, India’s latest setback occurred mere days prior to taking flight for Australia for the upcoming five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

As one can expect, the team’s Wankhede horror opened the floodgates to a slew of hilarious memes, mostly at the expense of captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir.

A legion of Indian cricket fans took to X to share strong opinions after India’s latest Test series defeat to New Zealand. While some fans berated the team and angrily called for the retirements of legendary batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli; others trolled head coach Gautam Gambhir through hilarious social media memes.

Here we take a look at some of the fans reacting to India’s shock series defeat to New Zealand at home:

Chasing 147 runs to win at the Wankhede Stadium, India’s star-studded line-up enveloped for just 121 in less than 30 overs to fall 25 runs short of their target. Dashing wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant punched out 64 of those runs from just 57 deliveries to top-score for his side. With 12 extras served on a platter by New Zealand bowlers, the rest of the Indian batters, minus Pant, collectively contributed just 45 runs from nearly 20 overs.

Team India also sustained humiliating defeats in Bengaluru and Pune last month to lose the three-match rubber by a 0-3 margin, thus slipping to number two on the 2023-25 WTC points table in the process.

Rohit Sharma and co. will now take flight for Australia for the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. The first of the five Tests will be hosted by the Optus Stadium in Perth from November 22 onwards.
