Sachin Tendulkar recently gave his fans on Reddit a special opportunity through a Ask Me Anything (AMA) session. Among the many questions he answered, Tendulkar also responded to a fan who asked about the strategy behind promoting then captain MS Dhoni up the batting order during India’s high-octane 2011 World Cup final match against Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, another fan asked Sachin Tendulkar to name his favorite innings of all time.

Tendulkar Cites Dhoni’s Muralitharan Experience For 2011 Promotion

Virender Sehwag once revealed that it was Sachin Tendulkar who advised captain MS Dhoni to bat over in-form Yuvraj Singh in the final of the 2011 World Cup against Sri Lanka. The decision reaped rich dividends for the Indian team as Dhoni punched out a World Cup-winning knock of 91* runs from 79 balls.

A fan on Reddit asked Tendulkar why he implemented such a big strategic change on the grandest stage of all. The former Indian cricketer responded that he wanted MS Dhoni to bat up the order because of two primary reasons, one of them being his experience of handling senior Sri Lanka spinner Muttiah Muralitharan in the CSK nets, and the other was to retain the “left-right batting combination” at the crease.

Another Reddit user asked Sachin Tendulkar about an innings which he considers his favorite. The all-time batting great claimed that while he has many favorites, the century he scored against England in the Chennai Test of 2008 was the “most meaningful” for him.

The innings against England occurred in the wake of a deadly Mumbai terrorist attack in late-2008. Chasing 387 runs, Tendulkar compiled 103* runs in the innings from 196 balls with nine alluring boundaries, including one to notch up the winning runs.
