The India Asia Cup squad was revealed last Tuesday by the selection panel led by Ajit Agarkar, and the panel announced a strong squad that hardly has any weaknesses. The top order is settled, the middle order looks strong, and at least on paper, India has the best bowling attack of the tournament.

Apart from the main team, the selection committee also revealed the stand-by players, who can also play a crucial role in the tournament if needed.

Who are India's stand-by player for Asia Cup 2025?

Alongside the main squad, Team India also announced the stand-by players for the marquee event. The Men in Blue have 5 players who are ready to play if any injury occurs to any first-team player. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Prasidh Krishna, Riyan Parag, and Washington Sundar are India’s players who are on stand-by.

The standby players are the additional members of the squad, and they fill in as injury replacements. They do not travel with the team, but provide immediate cover if any of the main squad player gets injured.

What are the injury replacement rules in Asia Cup 2025?

  • As per the official guidelines, a team can ask for a replacement if one of their players from the main squad gets injured. The medical team assesses the player, and a medical report is send to the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) technical team.
  • The technical committee then goes through the report and evaluates it before coming to a decision. Teams are expected to name a like-for-like replacement, so that no unfair advantage is taken. Also, when a player is ruled out, he cannot be brought back in the side.
  • Hence, if an opener gets injured, Yashasvi Jaiswal could be slot into the main team. If a bowler gets injured, there is Prasidh Krishna who can cover for the injured player.
