Yuvraj Singh has unveiled the pivotal mental strategy deployed by coach Gary Kirsten and Sachin Tendulkar to shield India from overwhelming pressure during their rocky 2011 ODI World Cup start.

Facing intense backlash after a tie with England and a loss to South Africa, coupled with the historic burden of winning at home after 28 years, the team received crucial guidance to block out external noise completely.

Yuvraj Reveals Kirsten-Tendulkar's 2011 WC Masterstroke

Speaking at the Women's World Cup trophy ceremony, Yuvraj Singh recalled how the leadership duo of Sachin and Kirsten refocused the squad solely on the ultimate goal. Their directive was clear and practical.

"Sachin Tendulkar and coach Gary Kirsten coming and having a chat with us: ‘From here on, what are the things we need to do to win the tournament? No one is going to watch TV; no one is going to read the newspaper. When you walk towards the ground, put your headphones on and focus on the field. While going back to your room, put your headphones back on. Cut the noise and focus on what you need to do to win the tournament," Yuvraj elaborated at the ceremony.

Yuvraj, India's 2011 hero, directly applied this wisdom while advising the current Women's team ahead of their home World Cup. He emphasised process over pressure. Yuvraj urged them to enjoy the tournament hosted across Visakhapatnam, Indore, Guwahati, Colombo, and likely Bengaluru.

“Play the situation, not the expectation. Be in the moment and trust the process,” Yuvraj added.

India Women Ready To Take World Cup Challenge

Meanwhile, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur embraced the challenge of playing at home, expressing hope to break the host-nation barrier. “Playing at home is special, and hopefully this time we’ll break the barrier that all Indians have been waiting for. World Cups are always special, and I want to do something special for my country.”

Bengaluru is slated to host key matches, including the India-Sri Lanka opener, a semifinal, and the final. The tournament begins with India Women facing Sri Lanka Women on September 30.
