After India’s triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup victory, winning captain Rohit Sharma created a memorable and symbolic moment by tasting the pitch soil at the Kensington Oval in Barbados and revealed that he wanted to have a piece of the pitch as a memory of the iconic moment.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma redeemed himself at Barbados by leading India to a T20 World Cup victory just months after the men in blue lost the ODI World Cup finals to Australia under his watch.

This time also, India’s situation was remotely similar to the ODI World Cup as they came unbeaten into the tournament and met South Africa in the finals at Barbados.

However, Rohit Sharma was determined to not repeat the same mistake and guided his team to a thrilling final over victory to end India’s decade long ICC trophy drought.

Rohit Sharma wanted Barbados to be forever etched in his heart

That being said, amid the World Cup victory celebrations, Indian captain Rohit Sharma took a piece of the Barbados pitch soil and ate it, which left fans across the world amazed.

Meanwhile, while talking to BCCI, Rohit Sharma revealed that Barbados ground and its pitch will always hold a special place in his heart. Since he wanted to have a core memory of the winning moment, Rohit tasted the pitch soil.

"I will remember Barbados and this pitch forever - so I wanted to have a piece of it with me, those moments are very special," Rohit said on BCCI TV.

Notably, Rohit Sharma has called it quits on his T20I career following the T20 World Cup finale, as the seniors now want the younger generation to carry forward the torch in the shorter format.
