The World Cup 2023 is around the corner and all eyes seem to be on the ODI format currently. However, just after the 2023 ODI World Cup, the focus is set to shift on the T20 format again as T20 World Cup will be played in 2024 from 4th of June to 30th of June in the Caribbean and USA.

India suffered a heartbreaking losses in the T20 World Cup 2022 as they crashed out in the semifinal after a humiliating loss against England. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, the situation was even worse and India were knocked out in the group stages.

Since the loss in the 2022 T20 World Cup, Indian selectors seem to be taking some bolder decisions in terms of team selection. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have not played for India in T20Is after that World Cup and under Hardik Pandya, India seem to be building a new team for the World Cup 2024.

India will play 5 T20I series before the T20 World Cup along with IPL and all these series will be critical in terms of preparation for the showpiece event. There are total 19 T20Is in India's hand and it would be interesting to see if India continues to play without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in this format.

Here are the series India will play leading up to the T20 World Cup 2024

  •  5 T20Is Vs West Indies (Away)
  •  3 T20Is Vs Ireland (Away)
  •  5 T20Is Vs Australia (Home)
  •  3 T20Is Vs South Africa (Away)
  • 3 T20Is Vs Afghanistan ( Home)

First up, is the series against the Windies which is crucial as World Cup will be played in the Caribbean itself. The other away series are against Ireland and South Africa. Australia and Afghanistan will travel to India in this period too for the T20I series but the point of concern is the interval between the IPL 2024 and the World Cup.

The IPL final is generally at the fag end of May month and with T20 World Cup supposed to start on 4th of June, the fatigue factor might also come into play.

Also, 20 teams will feature in the upcoming T20 World Cup which is a great news for the associate nations and the overall growth of the game.
