Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and seasoned all-rounder Shivam Dube are all set to play two Vijay Hazare Trophy matches for the Mumbai cricket team later this month. Both senior cricketers were part of the Indian team that recently walloped South Africa 3-1 in the five-match T20I series.

While Team India clinched a comprehensive series win, both Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube struggled to find form, thus marking a worrying sign for the Indian team, especially just ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026.

With T20 World Cup on the horizon, Suryakumar and Shivam resort to domestic roots

Suryakumar Yadav managed to aggregate just 34 runs across four innings in the five-match T20I series against South Africa at a substandard batting average of 8.50.

Moreover, the legendary Indian batter failed to crack even a single half-century throughout the year 2025, managing to score just 218 runs in 19 T20I innings at 13.62.

Shivam Dube, on the other hand, listed 32 runs in four innings against South Africa at an average of 16, with the added bonus of two wickets. Much like captain Suryakumar Yadav, the all-rounder is also averaging a below-par 21.22 with the bat this year.

With both cricketers struggling to gather impactful runs for Team India, the Mumbai batting stalwarts will now resort back to domestic cricket through the upcoming 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy season.

As reported by the Indian Express, an MCA official has confirmed that Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube have already informed the association of their availability for the Mumbai team for their Vijay Hazare Trophy matches on January 6 and January 8 next month.

Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube will be hoping to regain their lost touch with the bat in India’s premier 50-overs domestic tournament, in a bid to prepare themselves for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The two blistering ball-strikers were recently selected in India’s squad for the T20I showpiece event at home by the BCCI.
