Australian grounds are known for big boundaries but taking four runs by running is still a rare event in cricket. Interestingly, the fans at the Gabba in Brisbane witnessed one such incident on day 2 as Pat Cummins and Alex Carey showed their fitness levels and ran four runs.

Usually, a team hope for a boundary to add four runs to the total, but not Australia as they utilised the long boundary at the Gabba by rotating the strike. Meanwhile, on the 3rd ball of the 95th over, Cummins directed a Nitish Reddy shot towards the cover and it was racing towards the boundary.

Akash Deep's Slow Effort Favours Australia

Akash Deep raced to stop the boundary and won the battle after he put a dive at the last moment. He went over the boundary ropes after the save and quickly entered the field to put the throw towards the fielder. However, the effort went in vain as Cummins and Carey had already run four runs.

Pat Cummins And Alex Carey Stitch A Valuable Partnership For Australia

Australia did not start the day on a positive note as they lost three quick wickets. Meanwhile, Travis Head and Steve Smith pulled them out of the trouble by stitching a 241-runs stand for the 5th wicket.

The hosts again landed in trouble as Jasprit Bumrah shone with the new ball and took three quick wickets to register his five-wicket haul. Australia were reduced to 327/6 but Pat Cummins and Alex Carey stitched a crucial stand for the WTC defending champions.

Notably, the duo stitched a 58-runs stand for the 7th wickets in just 66 balls to help Australia put 400 runs on the board for the first time in 2024 in Tests.
