In a significant development, Sri Lanka have rope in legendary English batter Ian Bell as their batting coach for the ongoing tour of England. Ian Bell is a former England cricketer, who was hailed for his technique and stroke play during his playing days. 

Considering his high-profile credentials, Bell is expected to help out the Lankan batters thrive in the much-anticipated series.

The news was made official by Sri Lanka Cricket through a press release. It's mentioned that Bell will join the Lankan setup on August 16 and will stay with the team until the completion of the series. 

Regarding his appointment, SLC CEO Ashley De Silva said, 

"We appointed Ian to bring in a person with local knowledge to help the players with key insights on the conditions there. Ian has a lot of experience playing in England, and we believe his inputs will help our team in this crucial tour."

Ian Bell was an integral part of England's Test setup, amassing 7727 runs in 118 matches at an average of 42.69. He slammed 22 hundreds, showcasing his prowess in the longest format. 

Regarding Sri Lanka's England tour, it comprises three Test matches, with the series opener scheduled in Manchester. 

The caravan will shift to Lord's for the second game, while the decider will be played at the Oval.
