Legendary batter and ex-cricketer Ricky Ponting backs promising pacer Khaleel Ahmed to make it into India's Test squad for the Australia series. Notably, India will face Australia in five Test matches at the end of this year.

This series, known as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, will be crucial for both teams as they aim to qualify for the World Test Championship final.

Meanwhile, Australian stalwart Ricky Ponting believes Khaleel Ahmed's inclusion might boost India's bowling department in the high-voltage Test series.

Speaking to ICC, Ponting emphasised Khaleel's left-arm angle and explained how he could be effective on Australian tracks.

"Someone like Khaleel Ahmed I think could find himself on the Test tour. A left-armer would be ideal for them to have in their touring squad. I know he's just been over in Zimbabwe recently and played that (T20I) series over there, but a left-armer would be ideal for them to have in their touring squad," Ponting said.

Ponting also predicted the BGT 2024-25 result, expecting Australia to win the series by 3-1.

Talking about Khaleel, the left-arm seamer has primarily been a white-ball specialist in international cricket so far. In 12 First-Class matches, he has scalped 25 wickets at a modest average of 35.

However, considering it will be a long tour, India might add him to their pace-bowling reserves, as he can be an able replacement if someone gets injured.
