Sri Lanka Appoint 'This' Former Pakistan Pacer As Fast Bowling Coach Till T20 World Cup 2024

Aaqib Javed, the head coach of Lahore Qalandars, has been named as the pace bowling coach for Sri Lanka until the T20 World Cup in June. 

Aaqib Javed, a former Pakistani fast bowler prominent during Pakistan's era of pace dominance is set to journey to Sri Lanka to assume his new role. Javed, who was often overlooked during his playing days, will easily fall on the top 10 ODI fast bowlers of the 90's. 

Javed represented Pakistan in 163 ODIs and 22 Test matches between 1988 and 1998. Notably, he was a member of the squad that triumphed in the 1992 World Cup. 

Post retirement, he served as Pakistan's Under-19 coach during their successful campaign that led to the title in 2004. He had won 2 PSL titles with Lahore Qalandars as well. 

Javed will now be working with the highly talented Sri Lankan pace trio of Matheesha Pathirana, Dilshan Madushanka, and Nuwan Thushara. 

The Sri Lankan team has been searching for elite talent since the days of Malinga, and Javed's exceptional track record as both a bowler and a coach offers hope that he can unlock the potential of this generation's Sri Lankan pace attack. Sri Lankan fans can look forward to seeing their team's bowlers reach new heights under Javed's guidance.


Aaqib's Job as Lahore Qalandars Coach

Despite Lahore Qalandars finishing at the bottom in this year's PSL, Aaqib Javed, aged 51, has been serving as the team's head coach since 2017. Under his leadership, Lahore secured consecutive PSL titles in 2022 and 2023. Despite this year's setback, Aaqib has been instrumental in the team's overall progress, with players like Lahore's captain Shaheen Afridi notably benefiting from his coaching expertise during this period.

 Aaqib Javed had praised Shaheen's remarkable mindset which made him a champion bowler and good leader. Just like Aaqib groomed Shaheen, Sri Lanka can hope Aaqib can do wonders with a special bowler like Pathirana.
