Former Indian cricketer and member of the victorious 1983 World Cup team, Kris Srikkanth, has expressed his discontent amidst the speculations suggesting that Virat Kohli might face exclusion from the upcoming T20 World Cup slated for June.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced suggesting that Virat Kohli might miss his place in the T20 World Cup squad. The speculation stemmed from concerns that Kohli's style of play might not be suitable for the generally slow pitches anticipated in West Indies and the USA. However, no official confirmation regarding this rumor has been provided by team officials.

It appears that Kohli's performance in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) will play a pivotal role in determining his availability for the tournament.

Kris Srikkanth expressed his dissatisfaction with the news, dismissing it as mere speculation fueled by 'rumor-mongers'. He emphasized the significance of Virat Kohli's contribution to the team, particularly highlighting Kohli's exemplary performance during the 2022 World Cup.

Srikkanth reminded everyone of Kohli's pivotal role in that tournament, where he emerged as India's top scorer. Srikkanth was speaking on his YouTube channel about this issue.

"You need a guy who can just stay there. India need that sheet anchor, be it T20 World Cup or ODI World Cup. Without Virat Kohli, the Indian team cannot go. We need Virat Kohli, 100 per cent. I still believe Virat Kohli should be honoured like how Sachin Tendulkar was in 2011. The Indian team should win the World Cup for Virat. It will be a great thing for Virat Kohli,” Srikkanth said .

Given Virat Kohli's limited T20 appearances since the 2022 World Cup and his two-month absence from cricket due to personal reasons, it appears that his inclusion in the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup will heavily rely on his performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

With just two T20 matches under his belt since the last World Cup, Kohli's participation in the IPL takes on significant importance as it presents an opportunity for him to showcase his form and fitness ahead of World Cup. It should be noted that as per some news outlets, Rohit Sharma too want Virat Kohli to play the t20 world cup as he is a crucial player to his setup.
