Spencer Johnson Added To Australia's T20I Squad As Replacement For Injured Nathan Ellis

Spencer Johnson gets rewarded for his exceptional performances in the Big Bash League with a place in the Australian T20I squad for the three-match series against the West Indies at home. Initially, Johnson was not a part of the squad, but he has been added to it in place of Nathan Ellis, who is out injured.

While Ellis was recently named in a full-strength T20I squad that will tour New Zealand, he is not fit enough to feature in the upcoming matches against the West Indies. The right-arm pacer picked up an injury in Hobart Hurricanes' final league game in the recently concluded BBL season.

The 29-year-old pacer sustained a rib injury after landing on the ball in their clash against the Melbourne Stars. While it might not be a major concern, he is not fully fit to get going against the visitors. As a result, Cricket Australia have added the Brisbane Heat speedster to their squad.

Meanwhile, Johnson has been on fire of late, and the past few months have been monumental for him. The 28-year-old speedster has made his international debut, bagged an Indian Premier League contract and recently helped Brisbane Heat win the BBL.

The fact that he wasn't named in the initial squad to take on the West Indies in the three-match T20I series surprised one and all. This is a rare chance for Johnson to showcase his quality on the international stage and pose his case for a place in the Australian T20 World Cup squad for the global tournament that will be held later this year.
