India Women pipped their English counterparts despite Sophie Ecclestone’s late blitz to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the five-match T20I series. Amanjot Kaur bagged the ‘Player of the Match’ award for India for cracking a swift half-century and for picking up a crucial wicket.

Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of second T20I match, as it panned out at the County Ground in Bristol on Tuesday, July 1.

Jemimah, Amanjot Defy Lauren Bell To Take India To 181

India Women batted first and racked up a competitive 181-4 from 20 overs despite losing both openers, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma to Em Arlott and Lauren Filer respectively well inside the powerplay. Captain and comeback woman Harmanpreet Kaur also picked out Filer at short fine leg off Lauren Bell for just a single.

Tottering at 31-3 in 5.1 overs, number three Jemimah Rodrigues and middle-order star Amanjot Kaur belted 63 runs each, with the latter taking just 40 deliveries to do so. While Rodrigues became Bell’s (2-17) second victim of the day at 41-ball 63, Amanjot remained unbeaten in the innings while Richa Ghosh bludgeoned 32 from just 20 to provide the slog-overs impetus to the ‘Women in Blue’.

Beaumont’s 54 Overpowered By Charani’s Tight Spell

England lost both openers, Sophia Dunkley and Danni Wyatt-Hodge, within the first seven balls of the run-chase to a runout and to Deepti Sharma respectively. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt also failed to lead her side to recovery as she was beaten by Amanjot Kaur for just 13 in the fourth over.

Tammy Beaumont at number four smeared 54 runs off just 35 balls with eight fours and a six, and her counterattacking 70-run partnership with Amy Jones (32 off 27) took England near the 100-run mark. While Beaumont had her well-set stay halted by a runout, young Indian spinner Shree Charani dismissed Alice Capsey and Amy Jones in quick succession to bag figures of 2-28.

Sophie Ecclestone scored a fighting 35 off 23 balls but Team India escaped with a 24-run win to go 2-0 up in the five-match series.
