Tilak Varma registered his second successive 50-plus score of the ongoing 2025 County Championship season for Hampshire, this time by scoring 56 runs against Worcestershire at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. Batting at number four and arriving to the crease at 47-2, Varma grinded out for 171 deliveries, belting seven fours and a six in the process.

The Indian batting star helped Hampshire inch closer towards the 200-run mark after they had slipped to 112-5 at one stage of Day 3.

Tilak Varma Wages Lone Fight For Hampshire

Tilak Varma, who made his County Championship debut for Hampshire a couple of weeks ago in Chelmsford, scored 56 fighting runs from 171 balls against Worcestershire in Southampton on Tuesday, July 1. In pursuit of Worcestershire’s huge first innings total of 679-7d, Varma’s cunning 56 turned out to be the only half-century for Hampshire as they slipped to 192-6 by the time of his dismissal.

The Mumbai Indians cricketer shared 80 runs for the sixth wicket with Tom Prest (48) before the charismatic left-hander fell to a runout from Worcestershire captain Jake Libby.

Tilak Varma started out his County Championship 2025 Division One campaign with an epic 100 from 241 balls against Essex late last month. With 156 runs in his two innings so far at an average of 78, Varma might well be auditioning himself for a possible Team India Test debut at some point in the ongoing five-match Test series in England.

The cricketer has already played four ODIs and 25 T20I matches for the Indian team ever since he made his international debut back in August 2023.
