Ishan Kishan has been one of the prolific overseas performers in the ongoing County Championship. After smashing a blistering 98-ball 87 against Yorkshire, Ishan followed it up with another power-packed knock in Nottinghamshire's ongoing encounter against Somerset.

Ishan Kishan Sustains Purple Patch In Red-Ball Cricket

Swashbuckling Indian batter Ishan Kishan recently signed a County Championship deal with Nottinghamshire to fine-tune his red-ball game. The wicketkeeper-batter, who made his Test debut in 2023, has managed only two Tests, with his final appearance in the format dating back to July 2023.

However, the southpaw seems determined to revive his Test career through an impactful stint with Nottinghamshire in the County Championship. Ishan had a dream start to the tournament, amassing 87 runs in the previous game. And now, he has followed it up with another ballistic fifty, punishing Somerset with his glorious stroke-play.

In response to Somerset's fighting first innings score, Notts had a shaky start, losing skipper Haseeb Hameed for 24. Freddie McCann and Joe Clarke also departed cheaply, leaving their team struggling at 143 for three.

However, opener Ben Slater steadied the ship with Jack Haynes before Ishan came to the party, forming a magnificent partnership with the latter. The keeper-batter eventually brought up his second successive fifty in the competition, showcasing his consistency in the famed domestic tournament.

Ishan's Red Ball Career: An Unfulfilled Promise?

Hailed for his flamboyant stroke-making, Ishan Kishan made a much-anticipated Test debut during India's West Indies tour in 2023. Interestingly, his final outing in the format occurred in that series, with the batter eventually being overlooked in the BCCI national contract.

Thus, his Test career is nothing but a tale of unfulfilled potential. The ongoing County Championship gives him a golden opportunity to redeem his credentials as a Test player. If everything falls in place, the batter could pose a serious case for his return to the Test side.
