Cricket South Africa (CSA) has devised a scheduling roadmap for the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup. As confirmed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) a couple of years ago, the 14th edition of the tournament will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
While South Africa and Zimbabwe will be hosting the World Cup for only the second time after co-hosting the 2003 edition, the 2027 event will mark Namibia’s first-ever appearance as a World Cup host.
CSA Confirm Venues For World Cup 2027
CSA announced a Local Organising Committee Board (LOCB) for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, set to be led by Independent Chairman Mr. Trevor Manuel. In a press release, CSA confirmed that South Africa will host a majority of World Cup 2027 games, stating that the rainbow nation will stage 44 out of the total 54 matches of the tournament.
CSA also confirmed eight host cities of South Africa, naming: Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Gqeberha, Bloemfontein, East London and Paarl. The remaining 10 matches will be hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia.
CSA President Rihan Richards said that the South African board will use the 2027 World Cup as a “unique platform” for “attracting new fans” to the sport through digital innovation. CSA Board Chairperson Pearl Maphoshe also expressed his excitement, claiming that the board’s primary vision is to stage the 2027 event in a way that would reflect the “face of South Africa”.
Both South Africa and Zimbabwe previously co-hosted the 2003 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, alongside Kenya. Australia won that edition by comprehensively routing India in the final.
Australia will once again start out as defending champions for the 2027 World Cup, having won the 2023 event in India by outclassing the hosts for the title clash.
