Playing his first T20 match in 2 years, Sarfaraz Khan smashed his maiden ton in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. The batter celebrated his T20 return with a 47-ball century in Mumbai's clash against Assam at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium B in Lucknow in SMAT 2025.
In his 100-run innings, Khan smashed 8 boundaries and 7 sixes, and also stitched a crucial 50-run partnership off just 37 balls with Indian T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav.
The knock by Sarfaraz Khan helped Mumbai post a total of 220 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs. Sarfaraz was included in Mumbai’s playing XI for the match against Assam in place of Shivam Dube, and he got a chance to bat higher up the order.
Sarfaraz Khan puts a strong case for himself with a SMAT ton ahead of IPL 2026 auction
The ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 has seen several eye-catching performances by players. Notably, the tournament serves as an audition for the upcoming IPL 2026 auction.
With the all-important bidding process scheduled to take place on 16 December 2025, the Mumbai batter declared himself with his maiden ton in India's premier T20 league on Tuesday.
Making his IPL debut for the franchise RCB in the year 2015, at only 17 years and 177 days old, Khan became the youngest player to play an IPL match (then). Despite an explosive entry to the tournament, the 28-year-old's IPL journey has been a rollercoaster.
After going unsold in the previous edition of the league, India's promising batter will be hopeful to grab some eyeballs with his ton, with the mini-auction right around the corner.
Coming back to the game, the knock by Sarfaraz will be a big boost for Mumbai, who are set to lose Suryakumar Yadav and probably Dube as well for the next round of SMAT matches due to their international commitments.
