On May 22 night, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pulled off an unexpected victory over the Gujarat Titans (GT), winning by 33 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Thanks to Mitchell Marsh's explosive century, his first-ever in the IPL, Lucknow handed GT their second defeat of the season. But while Marsh's performance stole the show, it was a quick interaction, or lack of one, between Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant that caught everyone's attention on social media.

Shubman Gill Skips Chat With Pant After GT's Loss to LSG

Following the match, during the handshake line, the GT captain seemed to brush past Pant, who appeared eager to say something. Instead of stopping to chat, Gill quickly moved on to the next player, leaving Pant glancing after him.

The awkward exchange didn’t go unnoticed and netizens started reacting online. Some fans thought Gill had “ignored” Pant, while others suggested it might have been a playful moment between the two Indian teammates.

For those who might not know, both Gill and Pant are regulars on the Indian national team and will soon be heading to the UK for a Test series against England. They are also among the possible contenders to become India's next Test captain after Rohit Sharma's retirement.

Mitchell Marsh Lead From Front vs GT

Talking about the match, Mitchell Marsh stole the show with his stunning 117 runs off 64 balls. He helped Lucknow reach a total of 235/2. Nicholas Pooran also added an unbeaten 56 off 27 balls to close out the innings.

In response, GT showed glimpses of brilliance, with Jos Buttler hitting Avesh Khan for a series of fours and sixes in one over. However, LSG star Will O'Rourke (3/27) took crucial wickets. Despite Shahrukh Khan’s brave 57 off 29 balls, Gujarat fell short, finishing with 202/9.

While Lucknow’s 33-run victory didn’t change their playoff fate, it certainly dented Gujarat’s chances of finishing in the top two. This might explain why Gill seemed upset during the handshake, Gujarat had a real chance to seal that top-two spot.
