Indian batter Shreyas Iyer is set to make a return to domestic cricket, as he was selected for Mumbai’s squad for their upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024 match against Andhra.

The cricketer recently turned up for Team India in the two-match Test series in South Africa, where he managed to score just 41 runs across four innings at a substandard average. Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain has been ignored for T20I selection in the series against Afghanistan.

Shreyas Iyer returns to Ranji roots for Mumbai

Star Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer has been selected in Mumbai’s squad for their upcoming Ranji Trophy 2024 Elite Group B match against Andhra.

A couple of days prior to the all-important clash at Mumbai’s Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC, the Mumbai Cricket Association unveiled their 15-player squad, featuring the likes of fellow senior pros Ajinkya Rahane and Dhawal Kulkarni.

Notably, Iyer was selected in the squad after enduring successive failures on India’s Test tour of South Africa in late December and early January.

Here is a look at Mumbai’s squad for their Elite Group B match against Andhra:

Ajinkya Rahane (c), Shreyas Iyer, Jay Bista, Bhupen Lalwani, Amogh Bhatkal, Suved Parkar, Prasad Pawar (wk), Hardik Tamore (wk), Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Atharva Ankolekar, Mohit Awasthi, Dhawal Kulkarni, Royston Dias and Sylvester Dsouza.

Mumbai recently defeated Bihar by an innings and 51 runs to register their opening points of the 2024 Ranji Trophy season.

Their subsequent challenge against Andhra is set to be played between January 12 and January 15 in Mumbai.
