The honour recognises Shami's exceptional contributions to the sport, particularly his standout performances during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 held in India. Shami played a pivotal role in propelling the Men in Blue to the final, showcasing his bowling prowess with a staggering 24 wickets from just seven games, emerging as the tournament's leading wicket-taker.

Expressing his gratitude on Instagram, Shami shared a video of the award ceremony, thanking his coach, BCCI, teammates, family, and fans for their unwavering support throughout his cricketing journey. His heartfelt caption reflected the joy of achieving this milestone and his commitment to making his country proud.

Despite India falling short in the final against Australia, Shami's stellar performance in the World Cup earned him the Arjuna Award, making him the 58th Indian cricketer to receive this prestigious accolade.
