On October 31, all ten teams released their retention list for the upcoming IPL season. Interestingly, five IPL teams released their captains, presenting a great opportunity for other franchises to buy players who can lead the side.

Talking about captains being released, KKR's Shreyas Iyer, who led the side to their third IPL title last year, too has been released, as there were reports that his demand for higher pay was declined by KKR's management.

It means that Iyer would be a hot target at the IPL auction and is likely to earn a whopping amount at the auction. Nonetheless, this article will shed light on the three teams that would look to have Iyer in his team.

Punjab Kings

Notably, Punjab Kings retained just two stars - Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh. The Kings are looking for an overhaul as their regular skipper, Shikhar Dhawan, has retired from the game.

Thus, the Kings will enter the auction with 110.50 crores, the highest among other franchises. Further, they recently roped in Ricky Ponting as their head coach, and the ex-Aussie batter enjoys a great rapport with Ricky as they both worked at Delhi Capitals. Thus, it is likely that Punjab would target Iyer as their captain for IPL 2025.

Delhi Capitals

Shockingly, the Capitals released Rishabh Pant as there were reports that they wanted the southpaw to feature just as a player, and things went sour between the two parties.

Now, the Capitals too are looking for a skipper and can eye Iyer, who previously enjoyed a great stint with the Capitals before moving to Kolkata Knight Riders.

Lucknow Super Giants

Similarly to DC and PBKS, Lucknow Super Giants too would be looking for a captain at the auction as they released KL Rahul, as the latter had personal and professional reasons to exit LSG.

Thus, Lucknow would be targeting Iyer in the auction as they need an experienced Indian player capable of leading the side, and Iyer's CV ticks all the boxes.
