Shreyas Iyer Returns As KKR Captain For IPL 2024; Nitish Rana Named Deputy

In a significant development, Kolkata Knight Riders have confirmed that experienced Indian batter Shreyas Iyer will lead the side in the upcoming Indian Premier League season. Taking to its official handle on social media platform X, the franchise informed its fans about Iyer's comeback as the KKR skipper. Nitish Rana, who led the Knight Riders in Iyer's absence, has been named the vice captain for IPL 2024. 

Hailed for his fighting spirit, Shreyas Iyer replaced Dinesh Karthik as KKR’s captain before IPL 2022. However, he had an underwhelming season, amassing 401 runs at a modest average of 30.85 and a strike rate of 134.56. 

His hot and cold batting form affected KKR’s campaign, as they finished seventh on the points table with six wins in fourteen outings. 

However, he was injured before the 2023 season, as Nitish Rana took over the reins as the new skipper. But the southpaw couldn’t bring any change to KKR’s fortunes, as they had an exactly similar season in IPL 2023.
