Shreyas Iyer with KKR teammates celebrating IPL 2024 win (BCCI)
Shreyas Iyer led the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to a comprehensive eight-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final to lift the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 trophy in Chennai on last Sunday.
The outcome ensured that the franchise ended its near decade-long title drought, and made Shreyas Iyer only the second KKR captain after Gautam Gambhir to lift the coveted crown.
After the match, the KKR skipper was spotted celebrating the historic moment with his family, and he even shared a picture of the occasion the following morning on his social media.
Shreyas Iyer shares heartwarming message for family
Shreyas Iyer celebrated KKR’s IPL 2024 win along with his teammates as well as with his family at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium. His mother Rohini Iyer and sister Shresta Iyer were both spotted at the venue and even posed together with the cricketer after the match.
The following morning, Shreyas Iyer took to Instagram and shared a picture of his family alongside a heartwarming caption that reads:“Do it all for my family ♥️ Bringing the trophy back home for you too, papa.”
Apart from his astute leadership display, Shreyas Iyer also put up a batting exhibition this IPL 2024 season. In 14 innings, the 29-year-old punched out 351 runs at an average of 39, and at a strike-rate of nearly 150 with a couple of match-winning half-centuries to his name.
Despite his recent success in IPL, Shreyas Iyer has not been considered for national selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA.
The cricketer’s previous international appearance occurred during India’s second Test against the visiting English team at Vizag in February.
