Shreyas Iyer, one of India’s most promising talents in the last five years or so, has been troubled by back spasms for quite some time. The 29-year-old, ahead of the much-awaited return for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2024, gets injured yet again just at the last time.

As reported by the Times of India, Shreyas, the KKR skipper, will miss Mumbai’s forthcoming Ranji Trophy quarter-final match against Baroda due to the same concern. The stylish batsman, who missed out on the entire season last time due to a back injury, is now in danger of participating in the next edition as well.

Shreyas was with India’s squad in the ongoing five-match Test series against England. He played two matches, and made 35, 13, 27 and 29 over the four innings in the first two Tests. After that, he was dropped due to inconsistency, and now, just when he was about to make a return, the former Delhi Capitals skipper faced a hefty blow.

Ahead of the coming season, KKR have made a plethora of changes under the new leadership of newly-appointed mentor Gautam Gambhir. The two-time champions signed Mitchell Starc, Chetan Sakariya, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and KS Bharat, among many others, and they would like to play under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy.

However, it is important to note that Shreyas’ seriousness about the injury is still not available. Therefore, don’t be surprised if he dons KKR’s jersey yet again in the IPL 2024.
