In a blockbuster rumour that has raised many eyebrows, Sarfaraz Khan is expected to join Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

As per a report published in West Bengal's most reliable newspaper, Anandabazar Patrika, Sarfaraz, who went unsold in the latest IPL auction, is set to become a member of the Purple and Gold Brigade because of Gautam Gambhir, their recently appointed mentor.

Sarfaraz, who was with Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals before, made his IPL debut in 2015. However, he failed to make any significant impact in IPL 2023, having aggregated 53 runs over four innings at an average of 13.25 and a strike rate of 85.48.

In all, he scored 585 runs across the competition over the years in 50 outings, with an average of 22.5 and a strike rate of 130.58.

Sarfaraz grabbed a lot of headlines lately after Anil Kumble handed him the international cap ahead of India’s third Test against England in Rajkot. The 26-year-old made an immediate impact, scoring 62 off 66 balls before he was unfortunately run out by Ravindra Jadeja.

Then in the second innings, he scored an unbeaten 68 off 72 balls, which played a pivotal role in India’s 434-run victory over England.

KKR have quite a few options in the middle-order, with Shreyas Iyer, Nitish Rana, Venkatesh Iyer, and Rinku Singh to name a few. They also signed KS Bharat for wicket-keeping duties, and Sarfaraz’s inclusion could see him don the big gloves behind the stumps.
