Peshawar Zalmi, led by one of Pakistan’s all-time greats, Babar Azam, began the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 with a 16-run defeat in Match 2 of the ongoing edition in Lahore. They will next face Karachi Kings on Wednesday (February 21) in an attempt to open their account in style.

Babar, however, got off the campaign just where he finished the season last time in the competition. The former Pakistan skipper, who tallied 522 runs in 11 matches at an average of 52.20, made 68 off 42 balls with the help of four fours and as many sixes against the Gladiators.

In contrast, Aamer Jamal, who made headlines lately by reaping rewards in Pakistan’s Test tour of Australia, had a disastrous outing against the Gladiators. The star all-rounder's lackluster performance left everyone shocked as he conceded as many as 29 runs in two overs without any success.

However, keeping in mind that the Zalmi only had a narrow-margin defeat after coming to chase a gigantic 207, they are unlikely to make any changes to the lineup. Saim Ayub will continue opening with Babar, followed by Mohammad Haris, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Rovman Powell, and Dan Mousley.

Asif Ali and Aamer Jamal will take on the finisher’s duties, while Salman Irshad, Luke Wood, and Mohammad Zeeshan will play as designated bowlers.
