Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) gatecrashed Delhi Capitals (DC) at the latter’s makeshift IPL 2024 home ground in Vizag by a staggering 106-run margin.

Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer, the KKR bowlers kept the Capitals down to just 166 after Sunil Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi bashed dazzling half-centuries at the top of the order.

The outcome also maintained KKR’s unbeaten run this IPL 2024 season as they strengthened their claim at the top of the points table.

After the match, winning skipper Shreyas Iyer heaped a significant praise on his half-centurions Narine and Raghuvanshi before hailing Vaibhav Arora for his bowling efforts.

Sunil Narine blasted a career-best 39-ball 85 while 18-year-old Angkrish Raghuvanshi also pounded an attacking 27-ball 54 after the dismissal of opening batsman Phil Salt. Their sublime half-centuries set up the stage for a monumental 272-run total upfront to mark KKR’s best batting effort in the history of IPL.

Captain Shreyas Iyer praised the two batters for their attacking approach and claimed that getting 272 on the board exceeded his expectations.

“To be honest, the way we start, I thought we would get 210-220 but really happy with 270. Obviously, as I said, Sunil's job is to go out there and free his arms. He gets us to a flying start in the powerplay and take on the bowlers and it makes our job easier. Raghuvanshi was very good. He was fearless from ball one. His work ethic has been phenomenal. He reads the situation really well and plays smartly. Was pleasing to see him play those strokes.”

Iyer also commended his bowlers for restricting the Delhi Capitals to just 166, and singled out young speedster Vaibhav Arora for picking up the prized scalps of Prithvi Shaw and Abishek Porel.

“It's great to see the bowlers stepping up at the right time. To take the responsibility and knowing what to do in different situations. We thrive in supporting each other and it has been great to see that. Vaibhav was brilliant. Although he went for fours in the first over, he bounced back brilliantly and took important wickets.”

Having registered their third win in succession, an unbeaten KKR unit will now face defending champions CSK on April 8 at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai.
