On Saturday, July 12, England dealt a heavy blow as their star spinner Shoaib Bashir left the field in pain after he injured his finger in the 78th over of the first innings. The right-arm spinner hurt his little finger in an attempt to stop the ball that came straight at him off his bowling.

Massive Update On Shoaib Bashir

It appeared to be a dislocated finger, and Shoaib Bashir quickly rushed out of the field without wasting any time. The 21-year-old didn't return to bowl for the remainder of the day, and in the latest events, there are reports that the spinner is expected to bowl in the fourth innings, but England would prefer not to use him and only ask him to bat if required.

The report from ESPN Cricinfo also mentioned that Bashir is also doubtful for the fourth Test, which hints at a dislocated finger.

"Following his left little finger injury, Shoaib Bashir continues to be monitored and is expected to bowl in the fourth innings of this Test. A decision on whether he will bat in the third innings will be made in due course. His involvement in the fourth Test at Emirates Old Trafford will be assessed at the end of the match," an England statement mentioned as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

If Not Bashir, What For England?

Bashir is not having a series to remember as he has gone for runs in every Test. He has taken nine wickets in five innings. After Bashir left the ground, Joe Root took over the bowling duties and bowled 10 overs.

Notably, Bashir is the only proper spinner in England's squad, and it is likely that the Three Lions will bring in Gus Atkinson for the fourth Test and play Joe Root as their star spinner for the Manchester Test.
