In a significant development, England dealt a massive blow as their star spinner Shoaib Bashir walked off the field with injury. On the fifth ball of the 78th over, Jadeja played a shot straight back at the right-arm spinner, who in an attempt to stop the ball, took a hit on his little finger.
The 21-year-old immediately called the physios, before himself going out of the field in pain. It appeared to be a dislocated finger, but England cricket are expected to give an official update soon. At the time of writing, Bashir is out of the field and Joe Root completed his over.
Bashir Provides England With Crucial Breakthrough
Shoaib Bashir hasn't had a great series so far as the right-arm spinner has gone for runs. However, in the ongoing match, Bashir looked a bright shadow of his previous version and took the crucial wicket of KL Rahul, who smashed his 2nd Test hundred at the Home Of Cricket.
Before leaving the field, Shoaib registered the figures of 59/1 after 14.5 overs. At the time of writing, Bashir is not on the field and there is no update on his injury. However, Root only got one over in Shoaib's absence as England then took the new ball and put their pacers into the attack.
Shoaib Bashir Fears Rishabh Pant-like Injury
The ongoing Test has knocked down a few players as Bashir is not the first player to return to the pavilion because of injury. Notably, Pant also had an injury in the first innings when he made a dive down the leg-side but hurt his finger off Jasprit Bumrah's bowling.
Pant did not keep wickets and got replaced by Dhruv Jurel for glove duties. However, the southpaw returned to bat and scored a fifty despite being in immense pain.
